HavenDOS 0.7.14: BootChat Arrives
HavenDOS 0.7.14 is now available, bringing one of the biggest networking updates to HavenDOS so far.
This release focuses heavily on networking, connectivity, authentication and the introduction of BootChat.
Introducing BootChat
BootChat started as an experimental communication system built directly around HavenDOS.
The original implementation, now known as BootChat V1.0, uses the 2026.09.19V1 build and the V1.0 Local protocol.
V1 was designed to allow HavenDOS users to communicate with each other through a locally hosted server.
Because of how the original implementation works, users need the complete local BootChat server setup, including:
* BootChat-server.py
* BootChat-web.py
Both components must be running for the original V1 environment.
BootChat V1 is intentionally simple. It provides basic chat functionality and does not contain the larger feature set that exists in the current BootChat platform.
V1 is now considered legacy software.
BootChat V2
BootChat has since evolved into a much larger platform.
The current live version is BootChat V2, available through the BootChat web platform:
http://bootchat.duckdns.org
V2 moves beyond the original local-only architecture and introduces features such as:
* User accounts
* Login
* Chat
* Replies
* User mentions
* Direct messages
* Servers
* Server creation
* Expanded communication functionality
* Web-based access
This means users no longer need to run the original V1 local server setup just to use the current BootChat platform.
Networking Improvements in HavenDOS
BootChat is only one part of this update.
HavenDOS 0.7.14 also introduces major networking improvements.
HTTPS support has been added, Internet connectivity has been improved and TCP connection handling has been significantly updated.
Duplicate TCP connections are now supported, improving the way HavenDOS handles multiple network connections.
These changes also improve reliability when HavenDOS communicates with network services.
Over 100 Bugs Fixed
This release also contains more than 100 bug fixes.
The fixes cover multiple areas of HavenDOS, including networking, TCP handling, connectivity, BootChat integration and general system stability.
While HavenDOS remains experimental software, this release represents a substantial step forward in making the networking subsystem more reliable.

What’s Next?
BootChat development is continuing separately from HavenDOS.
The next major BootChat milestone is V2.2.
Planned features include:
* Profile editing
* More profile customization
* Photo support
* Video support
* Closing/disabling DMs
* Improved server creation
* Better server management
* Improved moderation tools
* Additional platform customization
An internal administration application is also being developed for the BootChat platform. Details about its implementation and administration functionality will remain private.
BootChat V2 is now the active platform, while V1 remains available as a legacy implementation for users interested in the original local architecture.
HavenDOS 0.7.14 marks an important transition: networking is no longer just an experiment inside the operating system — it is becoming part of the wider HavenDOS and Tech Haven Studios ecosystem.
