Get started
Boot HavenDOS 0.8.1 for the first time — about five minutes.
1
Download the image
Grab the current HavenDOS build. The .img is a raw bootable disk; the .iso suits VM software that expects a CD image.
2
Boot it in QEMU
Install QEMU, open a terminal in the folder with the file, and run:
qemu-system-i386 -drive format=raw,file=HavenDOS-0.8.1.iso -m 512
Add -enable-kvm on Linux or -accel hvf on macOS for hardware acceleration.
3
Add a hard disk and install
Installing to a disk works in the current release. Create a virtual hard disk, attach it as a second drive, then pick Install OS from the boot menu to keep your files across reboots.
# create a 1 GB virtual hard disk qemu-img create -f qcow2 haven-disk.qcow2 1G # boot with the disk attached qemu-system-i386 \ -drive format=raw,file=HavenDOS-0.8.1.iso,index=0 \ -drive format=qcow2,file=haven-disk.qcow2,index=1 \ -m 512
