Introducing HavenOS: A Fresh Start with Multiboot2 and GRUB
After months of building KOS with a custom bootloader, I started a brand new project using the Multiboot2 specification and GRUB. Here's why.
Why Multiboot2?
Multiboot2 is an open standard that defines how a bootloader loads an operating system kernel. GRUB is a mature, battle-tested bootloader that supports virtually all x86 hardware. Combining the two gives HavenOS hardware compatibility on day one without the burden of maintaining a custom bootloader.
Current Status
HavenOS is 0-10% complete. The Multiboot2 kernel entry point and basic VGA text output are the current development focus.
